Internal Committee Member
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act 2013 directs that it is mandatory for an employer (with employee count of ten or more) to constitute an Internal Complaints Committee (also called Internal Committee or IC).
The Internal Committee should comprise Presiding Officer (ideally a woman employed at senior level in the organization), two or more members from amongst employees (preferably committed to the cause of women), one member from a non-government organization (NGO) or an association committed to the cause of women or familiar with issues relating to sexual harassment.
The law is enforced to provide a mechanism to redress grievances pertaining to workplace sexual harassment and enforce the right to gender equality of working women.
