If we try to answer a question, are HR policies really necessary for an organization? or at what stage should we, as an organisation be introducing HR policies?

But, in the end any and every organisation needs HR Policies and some even by law.


What Are HR Policies?

HR policies, also referred to as human resource policies, are a set of rules and guidelines along with a set of processes that are required to run the management of people in the organisation.


Are HR Policies Really Necessary?

Then the answer is fairly simple, that is, as soon as you start working with people.


When HR Policies May Not Be Required

If you’re an organization where you yourself individually are running the rest of the operations through machines or through certain systems which do not require human interface at all, then you probably do not need an HR policy.


Even One Employee Changes Everything

But if you have an organisation which has even one employee, there would be certain rules, regulations and systems that you would need to have in place as policies, or something to manage employees.


Organisation Size and Policy Complexity

The smaller the organisation, the less the complexity of managing employees or people who are associated with it.

Hence, you have a less complex HR policy.

The larger the organisation or the more complex the operations people perform, then you would have a larger or a complex set of HR policies.


HR Policies Don’t Have to Be a Handbook

HR policies do not necessarily to be in the form of a handbook.

They can be in the form of a simple appointment letter, because a lot of appointment letters also have HR policies associated with them.

It can be a one or two page document.

It can sometimes even be a verbal explanation given by the supervisor to the subordinates at regular frequencies.
